Expressive Type: Typographic Vivisections: An expressive typography show held at the Ontario College of Art & Design in March. The theme for the show was Text Messaging, but the show was open to all forms of expressive type and font creation.
The 5 pieces I had submitted were;
Colon Right Bracket, Colon Left Bracket: It explores the way human emotion is reduced and represented with colons and brackets in text messaging.
Expressive Type Explorations: Creative typographic representations of a word picked at random, in this case the word was "Riot".
Typo-Ography: Text messaging as a crass form of communication.
Nutella-ness: Challenging the brand identity of a product. The label of a product is deconstructed, then reconstructed in a completley different and unexpected way. Does it maintain its brand identity?
Helvetica set in Mona Lisa: The words "Mona Lisa" are laid out on the canvas using nothing more than typographic techniques. The words are symbolic of the painting, and the typographic layout is an iconic reference to the painting. The medium which the work was printed on, the canvas, and the context of the exhibition are indexical of a work of art.
The show was written about in blogto.
